Introduction to the club

Billericay Striders is a family-friendly running club, formed in 1986 and accredited by England Athletics, welcoming members of all ages and abilities. The club has over 170 members and encourages them to run in races and help coach other members.

If you are an experienced runner, don’t run on your own – come along and run with us! If you are new to town or a beginner, running with the club is a great way to meet new friends and improve thanks to our expert coaching.

Club nights take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (7-8pm) from the Striders clubhouse at Hannakins Farm Community Centre, with beginners and prospective new members very welcome. Coached sessions are offered on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with sociable runs on Wednesday lunchtimes in Billericay’s Norsey Woods. And our active Junior Striders section (ages 11-17) competes in races from school sports to district sports and county cross country.

Our coaches put together training blocks to help runners compete in events right throughout the year. We focus on shorter distance speed work for the 5k and 10k season from April to August. From there until the year end we work towards stamina and endurance for the cross country season, while from January to April we switch to spring marathon and half marathon training.

The club is celebrated for organising the annual Billericay Striders 10k, the largest participative event in Billericay with 750 entries – the race raising money for a different nominated charity each year.

The chosen charity for 2018 is St Luke’s Hospice – and we’re proud of our support for various local charities, holding several fundraisers and social events throughout the year.
